Originally a Roman metropolis, it was referred to as Lucentum , and was later dominated by the Arabs within the second half of the eighth century. Alicante was lastly captured by Alfonso X in 1246 for the Castilian Crown. In 1308, Jaime III incorporated Alicante into the Valencian kingdom. Both the Back Bay and Beacon Hill are bastions of old-world residing, with even more alluring brownstones, fuel lamp posts, and cobblestoned streets to admire.
